Back to my bolg spot. Agenda for this month: Sports. Hot topic: Thomas Cup 2006.
Well i must say that i am also disappointed with our lost to Denmark in the semi’s. And i know many of you are cursing at Beng Hong and Hafiz and Chong Wei for their flop at their matches. And i know u all will be probably giving our players more hostile treatment again and again for their failures.
You know wat? Its fine if u all want to do that, i have no right to tell u wat to say. But let me tell u this: They never intended to lose. They never gave up. They certianly didnt chicken out of the match. They gave their all. They fought to the bitter end. To add salt to the wound our skipper Choong Hann is injured and out for 6 months. This wasnt planned okay?!
What i saw when they played the Danes was just sheer guts to rise to the occasion when the cards are down and the odds stacked against them. Yet they go out fighthing, maybe knowing they will lose, but always hoping they will win. Its not easy to fight under huge pressure. Beng Hong wasnt at fault. So why is everyone aiming at him for our failure? Hafiz has a poor record against Kenneth, ok fine, but he didnt say "Ok i guarentee i will beat him and win FOR sure! Watch me!" Chong Wei and Peter were in a dog fight and Chong Wei missed a few shots. Who’s perfect? Why cant we give our shuttlers the credibility they deserve? I always pitty at the Malaysian’s for their lack of support when things just dont go our way sometimes. Hey, if Man Utd were beaten by Chelsea and the Man U supporters here can say, "Dont worry, we’ll get them next time," why cant we do the same for our shuttlers? If you are all do great at giving comments and pointing out strategies to win then why not go play and show how its done? Fair enough i should say. If you all have better ideas, lets hear them. I bet Kim Hock, Li Mao and Misbun were already thinking 100 steps ahead when u gave that idea. Oh, then how come it wasnt used in court? Lets so u got out there and play with drives and smashes above 250km/h. Dont forget the shuttle is not served to you on a silver platter. U earn it from the platter.
I applaude the shuttlers for their hardwork, though it wasnt enough, and short, but they fought and earned it. It’s not everyone’s intention to be beaten, and i certainly dont like it, but thats what happens when u compete. What you need to do is keep the dream alive, give it hope, and give support. Honestly if i knew how sweet it would be to lift the Thomas Cup and if i knew how agonisingly long we have waited, by now i would have been trainning as back up already. BUt you people know our education policies: STUDY STUDY STUDY. Parents: STUDY, TUITION, REVISE, NO SPORTS!!!!". Sadly i was cought up in this mentality and life style. And your are all blaming the coaches for not finding talent. Hey people!!!! You are talented!!!! Hey parents!!!! Studies are not everything!!! Yeah their important but what is a piece of paper stating your child’s qualifications than a photo of your child in the Thomas/Uber Cup Squad kissing and lifting the Thomas/Uber Cup throphy? HOw much more pride is there in that for the country and yourselves than getting papers and certs from Oxford or Harvard? Look at Nicole David. Look at Josiah Ng. Look at the Sidek’s. Who is ever going to look at their exam results? Through them, the world see’s them and Malaysia. What more pride is there than that???
If you want to make a change for the nation, here’s what im going to say: "DO IT NOW!!!"
